New kind of yarn

Are knitting novels, including Kate Jacobs' popular The Friday Night Knitting Club (No. 21), giving way to another craft phenomenon? Kathleen Reid's scrapbooking novel, A Page Out of Life, will be released as a Berkley Trade Paperback Original on April 29. Scrapbooking is an estimated $3.3 billion industry. Reid, a scrapbooker who lives in Richmond, Va., says she's excited to be one of the first novelists to write a book with scrapbooking as its backdrop. "My book is about a sisterhood of scrapbookers in the same vein as The Friday Night Knitting Club," says Reid, whose first novel was Paris Match (2004). "It's about a very diverse group of women who come together and share things and support each other through good times and bad."
